Moxibustion
Moxibustion is a traditional technique that uses the burning of mugwort (Artemesia) herb to move Qi and support healing. The plant is dried and made into a fluffy herb substance. Moxibustion is applied to the body in various ways. It can be applied indirectly on a needle, in a moxa box placed on the body, or waved over the skin in the form of a wand. It can also be applied directly to the skin with a cream or barrier to protect the skin. Moxibustion is used to move Qi and blood, warm the channels and organs, and expel cold from the body. It can be used for a variety of conditions including musculoskeletal pain, menstrual cramps, digestive issues, and more.
Kiiko Matsumoto style utilitzes direct moxibustion in which tiny cones of moxa are applied to the skin (with protective cream), then lit to enhance the activation of acupuncture points, further promoting healing.
